Rev. Dr. Jim Bowden
Jim was born January 17th, 1961, at the University of
Colorado Medical Center in Denver. He is the 5th of 6
children.
In 1983 Jim earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts at the University of West Florida in Pensacola. He studied for the ministry at Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, earning the Master of Divinity degree (1990) and the Doctor of Ministry degree (1996).
Jim has served the following churches in the North Texas
Annual Conference: Greenland Hills, Munger Place, and Kessler Park (Dallas); 1st Lancaster, Boyd UMC, University UMC (Wichita Falls) and currently Waples Memorial in Denison.
He is an Elder and member in full connection in the North Texas Conference.
One of Jim’s special interests is leading groups to places of Biblical interest. He has traveled to the Holy Lands, England and western Europe, Greece, the Czech Republic, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Kenya in east Africa.
Jim is married to the former Martha Smith whom he met while doing graduate work in theatre at the University of Oklahoma. They married on February 2nd, 1985, at McFarland UMC in Norman. They have two children; Jordan, a freshman at Denison High School, and Jackson, a 5th grader at Mayes
Elementary.
Martha is Assistant Librarian and Coordinator of Diversity at the Episcopal School of Dallas. She received her B.A. in Letters from the University of Oklahoma and her Master of Theological Studies from Perkins School of Theology, SMU.
